A doll featuring the likeness of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić was burned during a carnival in Kaštela, Croatia, prompting reactions from Serbian government members who called for Croatian authorities to identify and punish those responsible.
Justice Minister Maja Popović strongly condemned the burning of the doll with Vučić’s image, stating that she expects official Zagreb to condemn the act.
“I expect the relevant authorities in Croatia to react, and official Zagreb to at least condemn this act. Such incidents can in no way contribute to good neighborly relations, but can only further inflame tensions in the region,” she said, as reported by her office, according to N1.
Minister Popović emphasized that Serbia is committed to peace and stability in the entire region, and that both the President and the entire government always advocate for this.
Foreign Minister Marko Đurić also reacted, “strongly condemning” the burning of the doll with Vučić’s likeness. He said he expects Croatian authorities to urgently and unequivocally condemn the act and take concrete steps to ensure that those responsible are identified and punished according to the law.

Đurić called the act shameful and provocative, adding that such actions are an expression of pathological hatred toward Serbia and its citizens.
Minister without Portfolio in charge of relations with the diaspora, Đorđe Milićević, emphasized that this event is not isolated, but proof of anti-Serbian hysteria that is being encouraged in Croatia.
“This represents a vile act of hatred, deeply rooted in those who cannot bear a strong, sovereign, and successful Serbia. This shameful event is not an isolated incident but yet another proof of anti-Serbian hysteria systematically encouraged in certain circles in Croatia,” Milićević stated, as reported by his office.

During the carnival in Kaštela, near Split, a traditional carnival was held, during which a doll featuring President Vučić’s image was burned, as reported earlier by Dalmacija danas, noting that “tradition dictates” that at the end of every procession, “Krnje, the culprit for all the problems of the past year, is burned.” The Croatian portal also reported that a “testament” was read during the “burning.”
Last year, on the last day of the carnival in Kaštel Stari, dolls featuring the likenesses of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Russian President Vladimir Putin were burned.
