Two daughters and a mother, originally from Turkey, were baptized on Sunday, January 25, in one of the temples in Trebinje.

They arrived from Istanbul, fell in love with Trebinje and Orthodoxy, so for them there was no dilemma. To their Turkish names, they added biblical names of their choice: Jelisaveta, Marija, and Ana, writes ATV.

Now they are named Ana Merve Derja, Marija Aise Nulia, and Jelisaveta Rejhan.

Two daughters and a mother, originally from Turkey, were baptized on Sunday, January 25, in one of the temples in Trebinje.

They arrived from Istanbul, fell in love with Trebinje and Orthodoxy, so for them there was no dilemma. To their Turkish names, they added biblical names of their choice: Jelisaveta, Marija, and Ana, writes ATV.

Now they are named Ana Merve Derja, Marija Aise Nulia, and Jelisaveta Rejhan.

As they explained, they had previously read Christian literature.

They stayed in Trebinje for the first time last year due to their father’s business obligations, and now they came here as tourists because they liked this city. They have been here for several weeks and will stay until February 15.

They decided to be baptized in the Temple of the Holy Archangels in the Trebinje neighborhood of Hrupjela. They were baptized by Father Velimir Kovač, and the godmother was Jadranka Popić.

The baptism was liturgical; in his Gospel sermon, priest Velimir Kovač pointed out that the church is an icon of the kingdom of heaven, and that in the kingdom of heaven there is no difference between one who is a Serb and one who is from Turkey.

“We should strive to be new people in Christ. And baptism is the beginning of that new life, and this is a joy for our liturgical community because they decided to be baptized right here with us, where they have been coming to Holy Liturgies for several weeks,” priest Kovač pointed out.

Jelisaveta, Marija, and Ana received Holy Communion for the first time yesterday.
