American filmmaker Oliver Stone stated that “Kosovo is a gangster state with a grand objective” and that its self-declared independence represents “a profound violation of everything we stand for.”
In an interview with journalist Tucker Carlson, published on the social network X, Stone said that the West’s excuse for bombing the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was “to capture a dictator,” but that the real goal was destabilization and the “dismantling” of Yugoslavia.
“We bombed a city in Europe—Belgrade—in 1999. Think about that,” said Stone, emphasizing that it was “an example of American divide and rule policy.”
Carlson, who has also interviewed Russian President Vladimir Putin, remarked that during the 1999 bombing, he “did not hear a single debate” in the U.S. about the reason for launching military intervention against Yugoslavia.
Stone reiterated that “Kosovo is a gangster state with a grand objective” and that “its independence is a profound violation of everything we stand for.”
“They held a referendum that was somewhat questionable, but we declared them free, no longer part of Serbia. That kind of Kosovo is a gangster state with a grand objective. I’ve been there; I can tell you that what happened is horrifying,” said Stone.

Peter Kuznick: When the U.S. Couldn’t Follow the Rules, It Acted Militarily
In the same discussion, which lasted over an hour and 40 minutes, professor Peter Kuznick stated that in Russia, there is a completely different perception of what happened compared to the West.
“About 96% of Russians believe a war crime occurred. The U.S. establishes an international order based on rules, which means it must go through the UN. However, when they couldn’t achieve that, they did it themselves—militarily,” Kuznick pointed out.
The interviewees also discussed U.S.-Russia relations, conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, and Donald Trump’s public appearances.
