“Google” has reached an agreement in principle with Texas and agreed to pay 1.375 billion dollars due to accusations that it violated user privacy laws, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced.

The settlement relates to two lawsuits that covered three of the company’s products and concern alleged violations of Texas consumer protection laws, Reuters reported.

“In Texas, big tech companies are not above the law. For years, ‘Google’ secretly tracked people’s movements, their private searches, and even voice and facial geometry through its products and services. I stood up and won,” Paxton said.

Details of the settlement were not released, nor was it stated how the money will be used.
“Google” announced that the settlement relates to allegations concerning “incognito” mode, location history, and biometric data.

The company did not admit any liability.

“With this settlement, we are resolving a number of old allegations, many of which have already been resolved elsewhere, and which concern product policies that we have long since changed,” said “Google” spokesman Jose Castañeda.
Paxton sued “Google” twice during 2022.
He also accused the company of tracking user location even when they thought they had turned that function off, as well as misleading them about the privacy of “incognito” mode. According to “Google,” the settlement does not include an obligation to change products.
