A twelve-year-old girl of Serbian origin, who was wounded in Bochum, Germany, when a police officer shot her, is in stable condition and recovering after surgery. The grandmother of the shot girl spoke to “Blic” and revealed the details of the incident, which, as she says, “put Germany on its feet.”
The shot girl survived the German police attack, but was in critical condition afterward. They operated on three of her organs – her liver, gallbladder, and stomach. The girl’s grandmother emphasizes that her family experienced a real horror, but hopes that justice will be served.
“They kidnapped her children” The girl (12) escaped from the home where she was staying and went to her mother’s house. After it was reported that the girl had run away, the police came to the mother’s door.
– My daughter’s children were not taken away, but kidnapped. We didn’t even know that her children were permanently taken away from her; we found that out later. They first separated the children from her last December. She is a caring and devoted mother, and that can be proven. The only problem is that my daughter is deaf-mute, as are her daughter and younger son, but that never stopped her from being a good mother. She was separated from her children only because of poor communication and cooperation with the Center for Social Work – the shot girl’s grandmother told “Blic.”
Her daughter has three children – a daughter and a younger son (11) who live with her in Germany, and an older son (21) who lives in Belgrade, where their grandmother also lives. Both children were taken away from her by the Center for Social Work. The grandmother claims that her daughter was not even allowed to see her children.
“She kept running away from the home” – One child was taken from school, violently, there was such a scream. The other was taken from the hospital. If they had organized it differently and allowed her to see the children, none of this would have happened; the children would not be running away and wandering alone in Germany – the grandmother said, adding:
– My granddaughter is a diabetic, and she is also deaf-mute. Since she was placed in the home, she has been running away non-stop. She even cut her arms and veins. If the mother is so bad, then why do the children run away to their mother? My daughter even returned her to the home herself so that there wouldn’t be any problems. The night the incident happened, she called me and said, “She ran away again, now the police will come again” – her grandmother claims.
The police arrived at the mother’s apartment around 3 a.m. At that moment, the mother, the girl, and her older brother, who had come to visit them from Belgrade on vacation, were in the apartment. The noise from the apartment that was previously mentioned “was the screaming of the brother and sister who were playing games,” the girl’s grandmother claims.
The girl’s mother opened the door, and then the drama ensued – They saw the light in the hallway; my daughter opened the door and saw the police. They immediately grabbed her without any questions, talking, or justification for why and how they came. They snatched her arm, threw her down on the stairs; they put a knee on my daughter’s neck and a gun to her head. The little girl thought they had killed her mother. She confirmed this to us when she woke up after the operations, she was shaking like a reed, when she saw her mother she told her: “Mom, I thought you were dead” – her grandmother claims for “Blic.”
The grandmother added that three or four armed special forces broke into their apartment.
– They knew very well what kind of family they were coming to, they can’t say they didn’t. Because she didn’t run away for the first time; she was returned to the home multiple times. My grandson then took his sister’s hand and pulled her back. Then they knocked him down in the hallway at the door too. They handcuffed him, and then my granddaughter ran into the kitchen and grabbed two kitchen knives. Let’s be clear, they were not large knives. She took the knives to defend herself and to defend her mother, because she thought they had killed her mother – the girl’s grandmother explained to “Blic.”
Shot in the stomach After seeing the girl with the knives, the police officers fired three electroshock rounds into her arm and leg, and then shot her in the stomach.
– They shot her in the stomach with a real bullet. She is just a child, she was so scared and screaming. They experienced horror in the middle of the night – the grandmother says.
The girl lost a lot of blood before the ambulance arrived.
– The girl was lying bloody in the hallway. They gave her first aid on the spot, and then drove her to the hospital. And they took my daughter and her son in pajamas and handcuffs to the station. My grandson was in socks; they didn’t even let him put on his shoes. They held them at the station for six hours for questioning – this woman states.
Germany on its feet – Many lawyers and deaf-mute associations contacted us. As far as that is concerned, I really cannot say anything bad. The whole of Germany was put on its feet; I cannot now blame the whole country because of individuals who acted wrongly. They condemned this case. I respect the country my daughter lives in, and so does she – the girl’s grandmother states.
The Consulate of the Republic of Serbia in Düsseldorf provided them with full support.
– They really did everything, but since the children are German citizens, everything is more difficult, and their hands are tied – the shot girl’s grandmother said.
Criminal charges were filed against the police officers who shot the girl, and for reasons of impartiality, the investigation is being led by the police from Essen.
