The atmosphere in the Belgrade Arena is reaching a boiling point. Partizan players were booed by the fans during the official presentation, after which a choreography followed with the main figure, of course, Željko Obradović.
The fans first greeted the players with whistles during the official presentation, and then they raised images of Željko Obradović with his arms raised. With this, the fans sent a clear message that they stand behind Željko Obradović.
Obradović, as a reminder, submitted his resignation as Partizan’s coach last Wednesday, and the fans welcomed him at the airport in large numbers. A meeting with the club’s Board of Directors followed, but Obradović stuck to his decision to resign and is no longer Partizan’s coach.
As reported by “Mozzart Sport,” the head of Partizan will not attend this match, even though he said in a recent interview that he would come unless he had to go on a business trip.
So, the head of the black-and-whites will not attend this game, and although he regularly attends Partizan matches, this time he did not come to the largest arena in the EuroLeague.
The reason why the head of the black-and-whites is not in the Arena is unknown. During warm-ups, offensive chants directed at him were heard.
As a reminder, in his address to the fans, Željko Obradović said that he considers himself the most responsible for the situation in the club.
“Well, this reaction of the fans probably changed. And then some things were not clear to me. But regardless of that, my decision is still final. I have decided and I can’t go on anymore, and I repeat that it was a decision I thought through very carefully and one I still stand by. This is probably an opportunity to ask you for unity, as I always liked, to be what you are – the greatest strength of this club and this team, to support the team with even greater passion in every next match, to help the players and to help everyone in the club. This situation is not normal and it is not good for Partizan. And I also think that for this situation the responsibility lies with the head of the club, president Ostoja Mijailović, I told him that as well,” Željko Obradović said.
