It’s no secret that DeMarcus Cousins likes to be in the spotlight, but his latest statement has truly exploded.
The center who shared a locker room with Nikola Jokić claims that the Serbian once told him he wasn’t sure he would finish his current contract.
Namely, he left open the possibility of suddenly retiring to dedicate himself to horses (which is not surprising given his reaction when his horse wins).
They were teammates in 2022, and he vividly remembers one conversation.
However, he first spoke about Jokić’s unprecedented playing qualities.

“Jokić is a dangerous guy. What I love most about Jokić is his personality. If you ever have a chance to have a conversation with him, if he tells you a little more about himself, he will be honest. He doesn’t care about any of this. The NBA is only the second, third, maybe even fourth favorite thing in his life. In most games where he has these crazy stats, he probably doesn’t even want to be there. And that’s what’s terrifying. It’s crazy,” Cousins said on the “Straight Game” podcast.
They had an interesting casual conversation about hundreds of millions of dollars…
“When I was in Denver, our lockers were next to each other in the locker room. I don’t remember who signed a contract extension at that moment, but I know I told him: ‘Your new contract is going to be crazy!’ He told me: ‘Cous, maybe I’ll even retire before this contract.’ ‘You’re going to leave $300 million on the table? Are you crazy? Sign the contract and then get fat, get bad. Just don’t miss out on $300 million!’ Then he told me: ‘Cous, I just want to go to my place, lie around with my horses.’ ‘Jokic, those horses will be there. You’ll just buy even more horses for $300 million,'” Cousins recounted.
