Last night in Chicago, the third, final part of the traditional concert of the “Oko sokolovo” ensemble was held, with which this group, along with its admirers, closed and celebrated another year of successful work.
The concert, symbolically named “Serbian land is where the Serbian soul sings and dances,” which was actually much more than a concert, premiered 8 new choreographies, as well as several traditional songs from centuries-old Serbian regions, including some where Serbs with their culture are no longer welcome, but no one can forbid us from remembering and mentioning them: from Baranja, through the Sarajevo Field and Herzegovina, all the way to Dalmatia and Vrlika!

Every concert of this ensemble, and those who have been to at least one know this very well, besides dance and song, brings with it fragments of history, legends, and legacies, in a format that is at times more theatrical than the classical folklore one to which we are all accustomed.

And last night’s was no exception to the rule, to the delight of the numerous audience that filled the hall and brought back with applause, and finally sent off Milan Andrijanić (who did all the dance choreographies) and his protégés from the stage with ovations!
The Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in Chicago, Marko Nikolić, also attended the concert.
“Oko sokolovo” will celebrate a decade of existence next year, but what they have created so far will last, be remembered, and remain recorded for centuries in the collective memory of a nation that is forced to constantly remember its roots, culture, and history – so as not to forget it in a foreign land and in emigration, which is our tragic fate.
Thank you to them for that. Thank you for igniting the fire and not letting the hearth go out.
