Miloš Teodosić’s retirement wasn’t a huge surprise, but it certainly left a void in the basketball scene. One of the greatest European point guards in history has left the professional stage, and colleagues and friends worldwide have decided to thank him and say goodbye with emotional messages.
On the day Teodosić officially decided it was over, numerous video messages of gratitude and friendship poured in. Among the first were Stefan Marković, Nemanja Nedović, Marko Belinelli, Nikola Vučević, Bogdan Bogdanović, Nikola Jokić, and Novak Đoković also joined them. Although he never shared the basketball court with Teo, they are bound by a great friendship. Đoković marked his farewell with a song, paraphrasing the lyrics: “One day, many will regret that I am no more. There will remain a song and a memory of Captain Teo.” In the video message, he said:
“Teo, brother, congratulations on an incredible career. You made us so happy so many times. The magic of Serbian and European basketball. Wherever you played, you made basketball, and everyone’s day and evening, more beautiful. Thank you for returning to Zvezda in your later years, thereby showing loyalty and love for your beloved club, our beloved club. Congratulations on everything. I’m glad you’ll celebrate with friends and loved ones tonight. I wish you all the best in your new chapter. We’ll see each other soon, it’s an honor to know you, brother.”
Bogdan Bogdanović conveyed how much the moments they spent together mean to him, emphasizing that Teo was a great school and inspiration. At the end of his message, jokingly, Bogdan lit a cigarette with his coffee – in a style familiar to anyone who knows their relationship.
Nikola Jokić also sent Teodosić a message:
“Captain, you are becoming a legend. It’s a shame that a career has to end, but it’s certainly a career that all of us who play basketball envy and wish to achieve. As a fan, thank you for all the medals. As a teammate, thank you for the time spent together on and off the court. It’s an honor and a pleasure to have shared the court with you. Enjoy your retirement, master!”
Miloš Teodosić ended his career as one of Europe’s greatest point guards, and his magic with the ball, assists, and court vision will forever be etched in basketball history.
