Croatia and Montenegro are playing the last-round match of Group L of the World Cup qualifiers in Podgorica. Zlatko Dalić’s team secured first place and direct qualification for the tournament that will be played next year in Canada, the USA, and Mexico, but the match with the Montenegrins is still significant for the result.
Croatia is fighting for a spot in the first pot before the draw. For them to be in it, three conditions must be met. The first was for Norway to beat Italy, which happened on Sunday evening. The remaining two are a Croatian victory against Montenegro and Germany not celebrating against Slovakia tonight.
In the early stage of the match, already around the 10th minute of the encounter, chanting of “Za dom spremni” (Ready for home) could be heard from the section of the stadium where the Croatian fans were located. However, it did not last long, because the Montenegrin fans reacted to it, silencing the shouts of the Croatian fans with whistles.
