Predrag N. and Ivana N., parents of two minor girls, were killed in a crowded cafe in the center of Arilje during New Year’s Eve celebrations on December 31st. Branko P. murdered the couple and fled the scene but was soon apprehended. The motive for this horrific crime has not yet been officially announced, while local residents speculate about unresolved business relationships and debts. However, the mother of the murdered Predrag claims that Branko killed her son and daughter for no reason.
According to Predrag’s mother, Branko had been their employee for 15 years, until 2019 when the company went bankrupt six years ago. Since then, Branko had no longer been employed by them.
“We remained on good terms. I know that he never spoke ill of us, nor did we of him. We never had any problems with him, nor was there anything to indicate that he would kill our son and daughter,” Predrag’s mother told the media.
“He carried a gun with him”
As she told “Blic,” Branko had a difficult temperament even when sober, let alone when he was drunk.
“At every celebration, he caused trouble and always carried a gun with him. At every celebration or wedding, he would argue with someone and cause some problem. Since we knew he had a gun, we always calmed him down slowly, because we were afraid he would pull it on someone. In the end, he pulled it on our child and daughter,” she said through tears and added:
“The killer went to the car, took the gun, and returned to the cafe. He first shot my daughter, firing three bullets at her, then turned around and killed my son. I don’t know how he had the heart to do that, even if he had some disagreement with Predrag, but it couldn’t be so big that he would do that, what did my daughter have to do with it, to kill her?”

The grieving mother says that Predrag died at the scene.
“We hoped that our daughter would survive, but she didn’t. He killed our children completely consciously and coldly, without any reason,” Predrag’s mother wails.
“The motive for the crime is linked to the raspberry business”
However, according to local residents, the victims owned a cold storage facility in a village near Arilje, and many believe that “raspberries are to blame” for everything. They claim that the motive for the crime is linked to the raspberry purchasing business.
“Raspberries are to blame for everything. Branko moved from Priboj to Arilje. He worked as a buyer for the married couple’s cold storage, and later for another cold storage facility. Whether they owed Branko some money, only they know, but many suspect that this is the reason. I don’t know, there are cold storage owners who haven’t paid for the last harvest,” one local told the media.
Branko P., the murderer from Arilje, was questioned at the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office, but the motive for the crime was not revealed as he remained silent during the interrogation.
