Students continued their protests and blockades even during the Christmas and New Year holidays, vowing to spend the entire year fighting. The protest outside the court building in Novi Sad has ended, and students have announced that they will gather in front of the Security-Information Agency (BIA) on January 11 for a “friendly chat” because they are not afraid and have nothing to hide. A tribute was paid to the victims of the roof collapse in Novi Sad.

Students have invited high school students, educators, farmers, and citizens to join them.

“We, the students in the blockade, invite you to join the protest on Sunday, January 12, at 4 pm in front of the Constitutional Court and support us. In recent weeks, we have witnessed violations of the Constitution, and therefore we decided to symbolically gather in front of the Constitutional Court building and express our dissatisfaction,” the students’ statement said.

They added that the violation of the Constitution has endangered the rights of all citizens, and that with the slogan “It’s important to have a constitution,” they want to send a loud message to the people that the “Constitution (does not) protect them.”

Students have also called on unions to join the protest, stating that they distance themselves from the activities of all political parties and organizations. They are also calling for a blockade of the Mostar Loop on January 10.

Student after the protest in Novi Sad: We want to talk to the BIA

“The message we are sending is that we are here, that the holidays have not separated us, have not extinguished the fire that is smoldering. We are here until our demands are met. Why the court? Goran Vesic did not appear for the second time at the hearing, he was not detained in prison…” said student Boris Kojcinović.

He also spoke about pressures on students.

“There are pressures coming from all sides. They are trying to divide us from within. We are going in front of the BIA to tell them to talk to us, if they are not afraid. We are not afraid because we have nothing to hide. The ways they are trying to intimidate us will not extinguish our fight,” he emphasized.
