Members of the Criminal Police Directorate, by order of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade, entered the Rectorate building – the existence of unsecured entrances towards the Faculty of Philosophy and irregularities in the work of the Rectorate are being checked.
Members of the Criminal Police Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia entered the premises of the Rectorate of the University of Belgrade by order of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office as part of a comprehensive investigation regarding the death of a 25-year-old female student, as well as eventual irregularities in the work of the Rectorate.
As confirmed by the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade, during the gathering of information and evidence from interviewed citizens so far, data was obtained regarding the existence of unsecured entrances from the Rectorate building to the Faculty of Philosophy.
That entrance, and it is believed that several others exist, was not covered by the engaged security firm, but rather by certain students and professors, says an RTS source familiar with the details of the investigation, “indicating that all of this represents a security problem.”
Also, during the investigation, it was shown that there is no record of when the deceased student entered the Faculty of Philosophy and for what reason.
The body of the female student from the Faculty of Philosophy was found on March 26 in front of the Faculty of Philosophy. The police, by order of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade, took statements and collected evidence regarding security failures at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade, as a result of which a fire caused by pyrotechnic devices broke out on the fifth floor of that faculty on March 26 at around 10:40 p.m., followed by the death of the student who, as suspected, jumped from the fifth floor onto the plateau in front of the faculty.
The dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Danijel Sinani, and several other employees were also questioned.
