It’s all over! Spanish coach Joan Peñarroya is definitely taking over Partizan, reported “Telesport.” He is reportedly set to lead the black-and-whites’ training session as early as Tuesday, when the team returns from an away game against Krka in Slovenia, with the match scheduled for Monday at 5 p.m.
Details of the contract have also been revealed, which will be signed through the end of next season, and over a period of one and a half years the Spaniard will earn one million euros. Peñarroya is ready to take the risk and assume control of the club in a very delicate situation following the departure of Željko Obradović and one of the heaviest defeats in history.
Additionally, the situation in the locker room is far from ideal, and the players appear completely demotivated to show a better face in the remainder of the season. We will see whether the new coach will manage to shake up the team, which is currently in 17th place in the EuroLeague.
Besides Barcelona, Peñarroya has so far coached Olesa, Andorra, Manresa, Burgos, Valencia, and Baskonia. He won three trophies with Burgos, twice the FIBA Champions League and once the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. He was dismissed by the Catalans in early November, and the engagement in Belgrade will be his first outside the borders of Spain.
