The Miami Heat is planning a spectacular move for the summer of 2027 – the acquisition of Nikola Jokić! According to “Courtside Buzz,” the team led by Erik Spoelstra and Pat Riley is already making plans to convince the Serbian superstar to move to Florida after his contract with the Denver Nuggets expires.
Although Nikola Jokić has repeatedly stressed that he wants to finish his career in Denver, Miami’s plans are clear – in two years, when Jokić’s contract expires, the Heat will attempt to entice him to change surroundings and become the new star of the South Florida team.
According to American media, Miami ranks only 15th in the NBA budget, but is already strategically building space under the salary cap. Currently, only $73 million has been spent for the 2027/28 season, which would mean they will have enormous financial capacity to offer Jokić a maximum contract.
Riley’s and Spoelstra’s plan is to build a core team of young players by then who will develop and mature by 2027, so that Jokić has a championship-caliber foundation immediately upon arrival.
Miami already has an interesting group of young talents—Nikola Jović (2003), Kelel Ware (2004), Kasparas Jakučionis (2006), Jaime Jaquez Jr., Tyler Herro, Vladislav Goldin, and Drew Smith, while the more experienced players include Bam Adebayo, Andrew Wiggins, Terry Rozier, and Norman Powell. The team’s average age in the 2024/25 season will be among the lowest in the league, showing that the club is planning for the long-term future.
The first step in persuading Jokić to come to Miami has already been taken – Nikola Jović received a multi-year contract worth around $15 million per season, while he will earn $4.5 million this year.
Jović, according to “Courtside Buzz,” is seen as a crucial part of the 2027 plan, as his presence and role on the team could be an important factor in Jokić’s eventual decision to join the Heat.
Besides him, Kelel Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakučionis, and Bam Adebayo have signed long-term contracts, with which Miami clearly shows it is building a young, stable, and competitive team.
Although Jokić is currently completely focused on Denver, the rumors about “Project 2027” are growing louder. If Miami succeeds in developing into a championship contender, the transfer of the Serbian MVP could become a reality – and usher in a new era in Florida.
