Iva Jović, an American tennis player with Serbian roots, is ready to conquer the world of the white sport, even though she is only 17 years old. She qualified for the second round of the U.S. Open, and then she talked about – Novak Đoković.
The girl, who is only 17, has Serbian roots but plays under the flag of America. In New York, in the first round, she defeated the Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich 7:6, 6:3, and at the conference after that match, she talked about Nole, of course.
“Now I can officially say that I know Novak, and I’m really happy about that,” said Iva Jović.
The young tennis player also explained how the meeting came about at Wimbledon a month and a half ago. She was training with her coach, Kathy Rinaldi, when the Serb appeared, and Rinaldi took the initiative and approached the winner of 24 Grand Slam titles. The rest is history.
“She did it without hesitation, and that’s one of the things I love about her. We were training on the indoor courts at Wimbledon, and Nole walked onto the court next to ours. His son was playing, and Kathy said, ‘Let’s go approach him right away.’ I was in shock,” Iva said with a smile.
She also revealed what Nole told her:
“He wished me good luck and told me to keep working. It was a short, kind encounter. I also met Jelena there, and their son was playing tennis. It was so cool. He didn’t say anything special, but the way he talks, there’s something about him that immediately lets you know he’s great. Even off the tennis court, he has that charisma, which is amazing.”
In the second round of the U.S. Open, Iva Jović will play against the Italian Jasmine Paolini.
