University of Belgrade students have decided to organize a joint New Year’s Eve celebration for all students and citizens under the slogan: “No New Year, you still owe us for the old one.” As announced, from 11:52 pm, a 15-minute silence will be held in Studentski trg in memory of the victims of the Novi Sad tragedy. Students from universities in Novi Sad and Niš will also be celebrating the New Year on the streets.

Students from numerous faculties of the University of Belgrade, Novi Sad, Kragujevac, and Niš are demanding the fulfillment of their demands:

  • the publication of all documentation on the reconstruction of the Novi Sad railway station,
  • the dismissal of charges against arrested and detained students and young people during the protests following the collapse of the canopy at the Novi Sad railway station,
  • filing criminal charges against attackers on students and professors and their prosecution,
  • increasing the allocation from the Serbian budget for material costs of state higher education institutions by 20%

“This is not a time for celebration”: Students on the streets in Niš “We believe that this is not the time for us to celebrate considering what has been happening in the past few months,” said Niš student Anđela Jeremić for N1.

“Let’s have a free state and justice first,” she added.
