The male suspect who shot at the police this afternoon was arrested in Mosorin, following a dramatic chase through Novi Sad and surrounding villages.
The incident began at the Kovilj toll plaza, where the suspect, threatening with a pistol, hijacked a vehicle from a foreign citizen. After that, he fled towards Djurdjevo, then turned toward Sajkas, and then toward Mosorin, reports NS Uzivo.
During the chase, the driver struck a police service vehicle and fired several shots before continuing his escape.
Police presence and patrols were increased at all city exits while competent authorities tracked the suspect’s movement.
In Mosorin, the vehicle reached the end of the road, where the police caught up with it. As we learn from the scene, the suspect was detained and arrested, and the MUP negotiation team, Gendarmerie, and Emergency Services intervened at the location to ensure the situation was safely concluded.
The police are working intensively to clarify all circumstances of the incident.
