Students of the State University of Novi Pazar today are welcoming citizens and fellow students from all over Serbia to a large protest titled “Either Them or Us,” which begins at 11 a.m. and will last as long as 12 hours. The reason for the announced gathering is the actions of University Rector Zana Dolićanin, who, according to students’ claims, is leaving professors who are not “regime loyalists” without jobs, as well as their colleagues without student status.

“Novi Pazar will be the world today,” the students said, announcing that throughout the day all main traffic routes in the city will be blocked.

The protest will last 12 hours, and the start of the gathering is scheduled for 11 a.m.

Protest program in Novi Pazar

At 11:52 a.m., 16+2 minutes of silence will be held.

The tribute is for 16 people who died in Novi Sad after the collapse of a concrete canopy on November 1, 2024, as well as for their fellow citizen who died in Belgrade, and for a colleague from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, who passed away two days ago after a fall.

After the silence, an introductory speech will be held at 12:09 p.m. – “I Will Tell You!”

At 12:30 p.m., the program “Free Bazaar” will take place, a walk through the city, and between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. a welcome for cyclists is organized. This will be followed by student speeches, at 5 p.m. “Vostani Serbije,” at 5:30 p.m. “Either Them or Us,” and the final speech at 6 p.m. “At the Top of Our Voices.”

“DUNP students organized a protest on April 12 and it was truly large and without any unpleasant incidents. This protest will be the same, except that it will be a bit better organized, in the sense that it will be more direct toward what their goal is,” one of the students told our portal.

According to information from our source, students are outraged by attempts by the DUNP administration to suppress all those who are not loyal to the regime.

“Many professors have lost their jobs, either because their contracts were not renewed or because they left on their own because they could not endure it. Many students have also left; they were issued withdrawal papers because they allegedly did not enroll on the day of enrollment in the new academic year, as if there really is no possibility of enrolling on another day,” the source states.

Students announced that they will continue blocking the DUNP building and that they will continue with even stronger actions.

“I don’t know what we can expect today, but I am absolutely sure that it will be something very strong and radical,” says our interlocutor from DUNP.

Students confirmed to our portal that the protest will be large, but different from the previous one, although they did not disclose details, noting that citizens will learn them on the spot.

“The protest will last from morning until evening, for 12 hours, and all parts of the city will be blocked,” said one of the students from Novi Pazar.

Let us recall that a large number of fellow students from various faculties across Serbia arrived in Novi Pazar as early as yesterday to help DUNP students prepare for the protest.

Although some of them slept at the faculty last night, and many will do so tonight as well, hosts from Pazar offered their homes for overnight stays, because the DUNP administration turned off the heating.

“Dozens of citizens from Pazar and the surrounding area opened their homes to people who came to the protest, because they closed halls in all schools. Most of them will be accommodated in private houses, and all apartments that are usually rented out are also occupied. The citizens’ assembly also organized overnight accommodations and there will be capacity for everyone,” the students say.

Colleagues from all major cities in Serbia, from various faculties, arrived yesterday.

“They came to help us, a large number of them from Belgrade, Niš, and Novi Sad, and there was mostly physical work. We inflated mattresses and brought heaters because the faculty rooms where people sleep have no heating. The administration did not want to turn on the heating even during the protest, and they know that some students sleep here, so we asked people to donate heaters. Citizens brought them, as well as students. In several rooms we have air conditioners, but the building has problems with electricity, so we have to be careful when and how long we keep those air conditioners on,” DUNP students explained in a conversation with Nova.rs.
