A massive fire has erupted in the town of Pisak, on the far eastern side of the Omiš Riviera in Dalmatia. The fire broke out shortly after 6 AM on Saturday. Forest above the main road is burning, and the town also lost power on Saturday morning.
Firefighting teams from seven operational areas are battling the blaze, along with two airplanes. Strong bura winds are further complicating the efforts. Multiple fire departments are participating in the firefighting, as well as local residents – announced the County Fire Operations Center Split.
Canadair planes have also been called for assistance, and their involvement is expected – stated the Omiš Volunteer Fire Department (DVD Omiš).
“The situation is not good. We’re hosing down houses, tourists are fleeing,” locals told Dalmacija Danas, adding that the fire has reached houses in Pisak and Marušići. Some houses are burning.
Due to the fire in Pisak, a section of the Adriatic Highway (DC8) from Omiš to Dubci is closed in both directions.
