Today, in Indianapolis, Mike Braun was sworn in as the new governor of the US state of Indiana, and his inauguration was attended by Serbian diplomats, Vice Consuls Aleksandar Đorđević and Aleksandar Milić from the Serbian Consulate General in Chicago.

Braun (71) is a member of the Republican Party, and he came to the position of the 52nd governor of Indiana straight from the Senate, where he spent the past 6 years. He was sworn in at an inauguration ceremony at the Hilbert Circle Theatre.

“In Indiana, where the Serbian community and its contributions are highly valued, we were greeted very warmly. This state has been a good home for Serbian immigrants who came to the US over 100 years ago, and then there was a second wave after World War II. Our emigrants, as hard-working and honest people, have become an important part of society. In Indiana, they also cherish the memory of their Serbian allies from the First World War, as we were able to see recently when our colleagues from the Consulate were guests of their Memorial Center, where a bust of our General Vojvoda Putnik is featured among the six most significant military commanders of the First World War,” said Vice Consul Aleksandar Đorđević in a statement for Serbian Times, adding:

“We were invited as representatives of the Consular Corps, and from US officials, Senators Todd Young and Jim Banks, congressmen Marlin Stutzman, Victoria Spartz, Jefferson Shreve, Mark Messmer and other officials from Indiana, the Secretary of State, the former governor… were present.”
