Stefan Bajčetić has made a decision on which national team he will represent. After much deliberation, he has chosen to play for Spain.
The football prodigy, who has already impressed everyone with his performances at Liverpool, has clearly and unequivocally stated that he will only play for Spain. When asked directly which country he would represent, he had no doubt (despite recent speculations to the contrary). “I was born in Spain, I grew up in Spain, my family is from Spain, and I feel like a Spaniard. I am very proud to represent Spain,” Bajčetić told the Spanish newspaper “Marca”.

He is excited about the possibility of playing for Spain but is unsure whether he will return to Liverpool or stay at Salzburg.
“Since I’m on loan at Salzburg and Liverpool aren’t going to the World Cup, I have the option to decide whether to return to Liverpool or play in the Club World Cup with Salzburg. If I return to Liverpool, I have the option to go to the European Championship and that’s something I’m really looking forward to. I missed the Olympics and the previous European Championships due to injury, I’ve never been to such a competition with the national team, I’m really looking forward to it.”
At just 18 years old, he became player of the month and was one of Jürgen Klopp’s mainstays.
“It was very fast. I spent a year there with the under-18 team, which was appropriate for my age, and the following year I went on pre-season with the first team. A few of us went, they usually take young players on pre-season to gain experience. I played well and when we came back, I stayed training with them. It coincided with the game against Bournemouth which we won by five or six goals. Klopp put me in, I made my debut and started getting minutes. The team wasn’t in such a good moment, we got chances and I took them.”
His father was a footballer, and he explained how much that influenced him.
“A lot. I grew up in a footballing environment. My older brother also played football. My father always talked about football and helped me make the right decisions and take it step by step. At Celta, I wasn’t one of the stars in my team either. I was humble, I had composure, and when the opportunity came, I took it.”
