Natalija Jovanović, Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy in Niš, told FoNet today that she is outside Serbia due to fear for her safety and is seriously considering seeking political asylum in another country.
Jovanović noted that she had requested police protection from the Ministry of Internal Affairs but did not receive it, and she is once again appealing for it to be provided. “I don’t feel safe in my city, in my country. Both my husband and I requested police protection, but we were met with a wall of administrative silence,” Jovanović said.
She emphasized that further proof of her endangered safety is that Snežana C. from Niš, who injured her with a knife in late March, officially apologized in court yesterday, stating she was under the influence of “Informer” television content, which she said she had “watched a thousand times.”

“Her apology is humane, but accountability is another matter, which must be borne after an act is committed,” Jovanović commented. She stressed that this incident demonstrates the strong “manipulative influence of propaganda media operating under the influence of one man and his clique.” This influence is particularly strong on individuals who lack sufficient psychological stability, which, she says, instills additional insecurity in her.
The Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy in Niš stated that she nevertheless hopes autumn will bring a different atmosphere and that she will return to Serbia. “I will stand with the students and have no intention of retreating one millimeter,” Jovanović declared.
In mid-June, at a session of the Council of the Faculty of Philosophy in Niš, Professor Dr. Vladimir Ž. Jovanović, a full professor at the Department of English Language and Literature, was elected as the new Dean of the faculty. Natalija Jovanović is a full professor at the Department of Sociology and has served as Dean since 2016. She did not seek re-election because her third term expires on September 30, and she stated that she also meets the conditions for retirement.
