US President Donald Trump said today that he does not plan to call Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the Democratic candidate for vice president in the 2024 elections, after a state lawmaker was killed and another seriously wounded in a shooting over the weekend.

“I think the governor of Minnesota is completely crazy. I’m not calling him. Why would I call him? That guy has no clue. He’s a mess. So, I could be nice and call him, but why waste time?” Trump said.

The US president issued a statement after Saturday’s shooting, saying that such “terrible violence” would not be tolerated in the United States, but did not offer condolences to Walz, Reuters reports.

Walz was the vice-presidential candidate for Democrat Kamala Harris last year in the elections, in which they lost to Trump and his vice president J.D. Vance.

The suspect, Vance Belter, who is accused of assassinating one Minnesota lawmaker and wounding another, drove to the homes of at least four politicians in that federal state as part of planned attacks, US authorities stated.
