Nikola Zdravković (22), a suspect in the fatal stabbing of Ian Cameron (74) on July 12th in Germany, has reportedly told investigators that he was a hired killer, according to German media.
Zdravković, from the vicinity of Veliko Gradište, Serbia, was arrested in July on suspicion of murdering Cameron, a former Rolls-Royce designer.
As a reminder, Serbian authorities suspect that Zdravković fatally stabbed Cameron on July 12th after knocking on the door of his home on Lake Ammersee.
“The suspect stabbed Cameron several times with a knife, causing his death. His wife managed to escape unharmed to a neighbor’s house and call for help,” German media reported earlier, adding that the suspect fled on foot to a train station after the crime and boarded a train to France.
“Six days after the murder, on July 18th, Nikola Zdravković was arrested in an apartment in Paris on suspicion of murdering the Rolls-Royce designer. He was subsequently questioned by the police, and his defense shocked the investigators,” sources from the German newspaper Bild reported.
According to these sources, the suspect allegedly stated that “certain individuals had hired him to kill Ian.”

“He then elaborated on this statement, but his words were confused and seemed unbelievable,” the sources added.
As a source from Bild further explained, the Munich prosecutor’s office did not believe the suspect’s statement and ruled out the possibility of a contract killing.
“All evidence currently points to a failed robbery. It is suspected that the arrested individual intended to rob the house and thus get hold of money. The suspect has not yet been questioned in Germany, as he is being held in custody in France,” the source said.
Moreover, the prosecution believes they have sufficient evidence against the suspect, Zdravković. As they stated, a red backpack containing the suspect’s clothing was found at the scene of the crime. DNA analysis, according to them, confirmed that the suspect had used the backpack.
“In addition, clothing the suspect was wearing at the time of the crime was found in the backpack. This clothing was also captured on security cameras. Investigators also found the knife used to kill the retired designer in a forest near the crime scene,” the sources stated.
As previously reported by Kurir, neighbors of the arrested young man described him as problematic in his hometown. Neighbors revealed that they were aware of him breaking into houses and stealing.
