Firefighters and rescuers, even after several hours of fighting the blaze that broke out this morning at the wild landfill in the Jovanovac settlement, managed to bring the fire under control. Thick smoke and a strong stench are spreading through the city, and citizens are complaining about difficulty breathing, especially those living closest to the landfill.
According to JKP “Šumadija,” the fire occurred due to spontaneous combustion, which, as they say, has happened in previous years due to high temperatures.
-Fire trucks and a bulldozer are on site, and firefighters and rescuers are working with JKP “Šumadija” employees to extinguish the fire – they told RINA at the competent utility company.

-Citizens complained of difficulty breathing, coughing, eye irritation, and nausea. The wind further worsens the situation, carrying smoke and particles towards inhabited areas. Citizens living nearby are advised to wear masks preventively. Teams from the Institute of Public Health were on site immediately after the fire broke out and extensive measurements began, the results of which are expected during the day, they say at the Institute of Public Health.
As a reminder, the fire at the city landfill in Kragujevac broke out today at 9 AM and is still in full swing.
