The Greek cargo ship “Eternity C” has sunk in the Red Sea following attacks suspected to have been carried out by Houthi rebels from Yemen.
Four of the 25 crew members died before the remaining crew abandoned the ship, which sank on Wednesday morning after attacks launched on Monday and Tuesday, Reuters reported.
Rescuers today pulled out seven live crew members, while 14 individuals are still missing. The crew spent more than 24 hours in the water before being rescued.
Among the crew were 21 Filipinos, one Russian, and three armed guards, including a Greek and an Indian, with one of the Indians being among those rescued.
The Liberian-flagged vessel, “Eternity C,” was attacked on Monday afternoon by sea drones and rocket-propelled grenades fired from speedboats.

The attack destroyed the lifeboats, and the ship was severely damaged, listing and sinking after a second attack on Tuesday.
Attacks on ships in this region are, according to sources, linked to Houthi militias who have stated they are attacking vessels in solidarity with Palestinians.
This is the second attack in the last two days, following an attack on the vessel “Magic Seas,” which sank but whose entire crew was saved.

Attacks on ships in the Red Sea have become frequent since November 2023, when the Houthis began targeting vessels in this strategic maritime corridor.
Greek authorities are negotiating with Saudi Arabia to resolve the latest incident, while fears remain that the Houthis may have abducted some crew members who jumped into the sea.
The Red Sea is a key maritime route for the transport of oil and other goods.
