Twenty-year-old Phoenix Iknier, the son of a sheriff’s deputy, opened fire this afternoon at Florida State University (FSU) with his mother’s service weapon, killing two people and wounding at least six others.

Police officers shot and wounded the shooter after he refused to surrender, said the police chief of the city of Tallahassee.

The Serbian community in America was most worried by the fact that a dramatic video from the office of Vladimir Dobrosavljević, a physics professor at FSU, was published on social network X during the shooting…

Namely, one of the students who was in Dobrosavljević’s lecture managed to record the dramatic moments and publish them, and the video shows students hiding behind school desks and the voices of police officers can be heard futilely calling on the shooter to surrender.

In the meantime, we managed to reach Professor Dobrosavljević, who fortunately confirmed to us that he was not injured or hurt:

-Everything is fine now. My students were a little panicked, but in the end everything ended well and a bigger tragedy was avoided, says Professor Vladimir Dobrosavljević for Serbian Times.

Police have not yet revealed the motive for the shooting, which began around lunchtime in front of the student union, and frightened students and parents took shelter in a bowling alley and a freight elevator inside the building.

The killer, identified by police as Phoenix Iknier, is a student from the state of Florida, investigators said. The two people killed were not students, said Florida State University Police Chief Jason Trumbower, adding that he would not release additional information about the victims.

The killer gained access to a weapon belonging to his mother, who has been with the sheriff’s office for more than 18 years, where she was employed, said Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil. Police said they believe Iknier shot the victims using his mother’s former service pistol, which she kept for personal use after the force transitioned to new weapons.”
