The Minister of Education, Slavica Đukić Dejanović, left the public debate on amendments to the law on education and upbringing held in the Niš City Assembly after students entered the hall in protest with banners and whistles.

They followed her to the exit from the building, where, according to them, Minister Đukić Dejanović told them to contact her by email, as there were no conditions for a conversation now.

Students, on the other hand, “occupied” the assembly hall, as well as the corridors and stairs, holding their index cards in their hands and shouting, “We want justice.”

Some of them chanted: “Slavica to jail.”

Before entering the hall, a public debate on the amendments to the law was underway, and the minister was sitting in the seat of the President of the City Assembly.

Students had previously gathered in front of the City Assembly to “welcome” Minister Đukić Dejanović with shouts of disapproval, as they were called by the Informal Group of Students (NGS), which initiated protests at the University of Niš, due to the tragedy in Novi Sad, when 15 people died when a concrete canopy collapsed at the reconstructed railway station.

The Minister of Education was supposed to come to Niš yesterday to have a meeting with the deans of the faculties that are in blockade in the afternoon, but she canceled it at the last minute.
