The British government will consider new legislation aimed at removing King Charles III’s brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, from the royal line of succession, Sky News reports, citing sources.
Such a move would take place only after the ongoing police investigation against the former prince is completed. His royal title was revoked last year due to his connections with the late American sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Any changes to the line of succession would require consultations and agreement with other Commonwealth realms. Calls for Andrew’s removal from the line of succession have grown louder after he was detained by Thames Valley Police for questioning over suspicions that he abused his official position during contacts linked to Epstein.
He has denied committing any criminal offenses and was released from custody yesterday after 11 hours of questioning.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is currently eighth in line to the British throne, behind Prince William and his three children, as well as Prince Harry and his two children.
