The match between Serbia and England at “Marakana” has been characterized as a “high-risk” match for the fans of the British team, of whom, according to media reports, there will be just over 2,500 in Belgrade.
Although the islanders are known as fans who do not shy away from conflict at football events, according to statements from their media, a partial fear has nevertheless crept into the bones of the English fans, who will visit the Serbian capital with caution.
Due to past problems with visiting fans, the Serbian police have committed to providing protection for the British, while a part of law enforcement from England will also be in Belgrade. Among them will be English police supervisor Gareth Parkin, who, ahead of tonight’s match (8:45 PM, RTS1, A1P), gave clear instructions to the British fans regarding their behavior and movement in Belgrade.
“I know that the local authorities have characterized this match as a high-risk match. We have received guarantees from the police that there is a detailed plan that should ensure the safety of our fans, which is why it’s important that they adhere to those rules. The Serbian police, by the way, have experience with such matches, given their passionate derby between Partizan and Red Star, so I expect everything to go smoothly. We will also do our best to ensure safety. About 2,500 English fans will be in Belgrade, and our advice is for them to move exclusively in the tourist parts of the city and to respect the culture of the country they have come to. The culture of the ultras in Serbia is known to us,” said the English police supervisor.
