The Ministry of Agriculture announced that the Veterinary Directorate carried out an emergency inspection at the “Palić” Zoological Garden and determined that the animals are not neglected. The Freedom and Justice Party (SSP) had earlier issued a statement and published photographs claiming that animals had died, blaming the zoo’s management.

Two tigers, two leopards, two bears, a zebra, ostriches, almost all kangaroos, bison, alpacas, a dwarf crocodile and numerous other animals died just last year at the Palić Zoo, the Freedom and Justice Party (SSP) claimed in a statement released a few days ago.

The SSP states that those responsible are director Sonja Mandić, her deputy Robert Santo, and veterinarian Marko Lazić.

The Ministry said today that the Veterinary Directorate conducted an emergency inspection and found that “the animals are in good health and physical condition and that continuous and professional care is being provided for them. The inspection did not determine neglect or endangerment of animal welfare, and the minor irregularities observed relate exclusively to the improvement of administrative procedures and additional preventive measures, which were immediately ordered and will be implemented in accordance with the law.”
