If you are a general manager or coach in an NBA team and you have Nikola Jokić, that can make you relax a bit and do your job less diligently. Denver had exactly that problem — everything depended on the Serbian center — but this season, things are completely different.
The new general manager has deepened the Nuggets’ roster, while coach David Adelman has brought back the championship style of play. Against Phoenix, everything clicked, and in Ball Arena, the Suns stood no chance — 133:111.
We must start with Nikola Jokić, who in this game recorded the 166th triple-double of his career. He finished with 14 points, 14 rebounds, and 15 assists. It’s incredible how effortlessly the Sombor native plays, and it’s clear he’s enjoying himself in this Denver team.
So much so that he scored his first points only four minutes before the end of the second quarter! Until then, he was dishing out assists one after another, while his teammates — especially Aaron Gordon, Christian Braun, and Jamal Murray — were shining, and Denver controlled the game from the start.
While Jokić impressed with his passing, Gordon was dunking like it was 2016 again and he was back in the dunk contest against Zach LaVine. In fact, tonight Gordon performed a dunk very similar to that one — he spun 360 degrees in the air and slammed the ball with his right hand. Back then, he took the ball from the Orlando mascot, and now he was perfectly set up by Jokić.
