Today, a Day of Mourning has been declared in Sremska Mitrovica due to the serious traffic accident that occurred on October 17 on the road between Sremska Mitrovica and Jarak, when a bus drove off the road and overturned into a canal.
Three people lost their lives in the accident, while several dozen passengers sustained injuries, some of whom are still receiving hospital treatment.
During the Day of Mourning, flags on all state and public institutions have been lowered to half-mast, and all cultural, entertainment, and musical events have been cancelled.
Radio and television programs are adapted to the spirit of mourning; no entertainment or folk music is broadcast, and the media expresses solidarity and piety towards the victims.
The city authorities, together with their fellow citizens, have sent expressions of the deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and support to the injured who are recovering.
