The President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić assessed that the state of healthcare in Serbia is unsustainable and that in recent decades the healthcare system has been managed incorrectly, but he did not specify what the solution or plan is.
Vučić said at the presentation of Serbia’s strategy until 2035 that proportionally almost the most in Europe is invested in healthcare, and that people think that free treatment belongs to them, which, he says, is not true.
As Vučić explains, using the example of Minister Ivica Dačić who, as he says, should leave the hospital next week, his treatment would not be covered even by five years of his salary.
“This is an unsustainable model and I am not satisfied with the lack of courage to talk about it. You have, for example, a doctor in Niš who performs one to two surgeries a month, does nothing, and receives a salary of more than 3,500 euros,” said Vučić.
He announced that from 2028 to 2035, 2.5 billion euros will be invested in infrastructure, but that investing in walls is not worthwhile and that doctors must be paid according to performance.
He again announced the abolition of waiting lists and repeated that in Serbia the fewest children are treated through SMS messages.
When it comes to waiting lists, he asked people not to refuse surgeries because of pig slaughtering or travel and to have respect for the healthcare system.
Vučić announced investments in hospitals and clinical centers, and for the hospital in Smederevska Palanka he admitted that the unrenovated part looks like a public toilet.
He asked the minister to check whether it is realistic to invest 371 million euros in Šabac, if 157 million are planned for the Clinical Center in Niš and 131 million for Novi Sad.
