Employees of the Faculty of Philosophy stated that officers from the Criminal Police Directorate (UKP) removed student documentation from the faculty building, which, according to staff, has no connection to the death of the deceased student. They also claim that UKP officers recorded footage that was later published by tabloids.
“We cooperated with units of the Criminal Police Directorate, which inspected all faculty premises and the requested documentation, and removed from the building, at the request of the Prosecutor’s Office, in addition to general faculty acts, also part of student records that have no connection whatsoever to the tragic event. During the day, members of the Criminal Police Directorate made recordings of the premises they inspected at the Faculty, and those recordings were immediately published by tabloids after being made,” the Faculty of Philosophy employees stated.
The staff particularly emphasized that during yesterday’s inspection of the premises, UKP officers did not find any pyrotechnic devices because, they say, the faculty does not store any, reports N1.
They further explained that, as they stated, the publication of such information harms the family of the deceased student as well as the public.
“Arbitrary and irresponsible reporting by tabloids and the unprofessional sharing of footage further injures the family of the deceased girl and disturbs other students, employees, and the wider public. Therefore, we appeal to investigative authorities to carry out pre-investigation procedures professionally and responsibly and to publish the results of the investigation as soon as possible. This would put an end to speculation that serves a politically motivated attack on the Faculty and diverts attention from this tragic event,” the employees stated in their announcement.
They also expressed condolences to the family of the deceased student.
On Thursday, shortly after 10 p.m., a female student of the Faculty of Philosophy died after falling from the fifth floor window of the faculty building.
Police officers from the Stari Grad police station were the first to arrive at the scene and conduct an on-site investigation.
In the morning, around twenty members of the Criminal Police Directorate (UKP) arrived at the faculty on the order of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade, Special Department for Combating Corruption, to continue the investigation, as the prosecution stated there was reasonable suspicion that the dean and faculty administration committed the criminal offense of negligent performance of duty.
