Carlos Alcaraz stopped Novak Djokovic on his way to the 11th US Open final. The Spaniard won in three sets 6:4, 7:6 (7:4), 6:2 and for the second time in his career will play for the title in New York. The Serb is still a class above the rest of the world, but it seems that at this moment Sinner and Alcaraz are an almost insurmountable obstacle for the best player in history.

Alcaraz did not shine, he made a lot of mistakes, but the impression is that he is physically fitter than Novak. As the match progressed, this became more and more apparent. Djokovic practically ran out of strength in the final of the third set.

The first set, it turned out, was decided in the first game. Alcaraz reached a break point, Novak saved the first, but not the second, and the Spaniard took a 1:0 lead. After that, Carlos did not shine, but he also did not allow Djokovic to get a break point. In the end, he won this part of the game with 6:4 without much excitement.

Novak missed his chance in the second set. He took his serve, and then got to the first break point. He immediately used it, and Arthur Ashe Stadium was in a trance. He easily won the next game as well and the scoreboard read 3:0.

However, in the fifth game, Alcaraz took advantage of Novak’s bad momentum and got the break back. Until the end of the set, there were no more break points, and Djokovic was an excellent match for Carlos who was not shining.

The decision was made in the tie-break. Novak betrayed his serve. He won only one point on his initial shot. He managed to get from 1:4 to 3:4, he also got to 4:5, but Alcaraz with two excellent serves reached what would turn out to be an unattainable advantage.

In the break between the two sets, Djokovic asked for the help of a physiotherapist, but he quickly returned to the court. However, it was obvious that he had run out of strength. He practically gifted a break to his rival with a double fault in the fourth game and the story was over then.

Alcaraz routinely brought the job to an end and reached his fourth victory in nine matches against the Serb. In the final on Sunday, he will play against the better of the Sinner – Auger-Aliassime match.
