The newly elected U.S. President, Donald Trump, has appointed several new candidates for key positions in his cabinet, including Scott Besent, the director of the investment fund “Key Square Capital Management,” as the new Secretary of the Treasury.
Besent, a longtime associate of the Soros Fund, would become the first openly gay person to hold this position if his appointment is confirmed, Reuters reports.
His priority will be reducing the deficit and national debt. Besent has been a supporter of the Democrats in the past but has become a strong Trump supporter in recent years. Trump, in his statement, emphasized that “Scott enjoys broad respect as one of the most prominent international investors and strategists in geopolitical and economic matters.”
Trump also announced several other key appointments for his cabinet. For Director of the Office of Management and Budget, Trump nominated Russell Turov Wout, who had served in this role during the first Trump administration. Trump noted that Wout is a long-time expert in public policy and is dedicated to cost reduction and reforms.
Oregon Representative, Lori Chavez-DeRemer, was appointed as the candidate for Secretary of Labor, while former American football player Scott Turner was nominated as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.
In healthcare, Trump nominated Dr. Janet Nešvat, a Fox News contributor, as Director of Public Health, while former Congressman Dave Weldon was chosen as the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Surgeon Martin Makary is expected to head the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), according to Trump’s decision.
