The total lunar eclipse will be fully observable from Serbia on Sunday, September 7, the “Ruđer Bošković” Astronomical Society from Belgrade announced.

According to the statement, in Serbia, the partially eclipsed Moon will appear in the east in the evening, and in Belgrade, it will rise at 7:00 PM. It will be totally eclipsed from 7:30 PM to 8:52 PM. The last contact with the Earth’s shadow will be at 9:56 PM, and with the barely noticeable penumbra at 10:56 PM.

If the sky is clear, Belgrade residents will be able to follow this interesting phenomenon with expert commentary from the terrace of the People’s Observatory on Kalemegdan. All phases of the eclipse will be visible from India, China, central Russia, Kazakhstan, and Western Australia, but it will not be seen from either North or South America.

According to estimates, about 77% of the Earth’s population will be able to witness this event. During an eclipse, the Moon passes through the Earth’s shadow, and only red light from the Sun’s white light passes through the Earth’s atmosphere to its surface, so the Moon appears a coppery-red color, which is why it is often called a “blood moon” in the West.

A lunar eclipse can be observed with the naked eye, “N1” reports.
