The newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump has appointed Susie Wiles, his campaign manager, as the new White House Chief of Staff, making her the first woman in U.S. history to hold this position.

“Susie is strong, smart, innovative, and highly respected. She will be instrumental in achieving our goals to make America great again. It is an honor that she will be the first woman to hold this role, and I am confident she will make our country proud,” Trump stated in a press release, as reported by CNN.

Wiles, a longtime Republican strategist from Florida, gained broad recognition for her role in managing Trump’s campaign in Florida in both the 2016 and 2020 elections.

Previously, she managed Rick Scott’s gubernatorial campaign in Florida in 2010 and briefly led the campaign of former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman in 2012. The Associated Press reports that Wiles is largely credited with running Trump’s most disciplined and effective campaign to date.

AP also notes that Wiles has strived to stay out of the spotlight, even refraining from speaking during the celebration of Trump’s victory. As part of the electoral process, once votes in all U.S. states are counted and results certified, electors will cast their votes across the country in December.

Congress will then confirm Trump’s election as president in early January. The inauguration of the new president is scheduled for January 20, 2025, in Washington.

According to the latest data, Trump won 295 electoral votes in the presidential election, while his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, secured 226.
