Serbia’s water polo players are in the semifinals of the European Championship after a victory against Hungary by a score of 15:14.

This week, the Belgrade Arena hosted the biggest possible water polo classic, as Serbia and Hungary played a match of the second round of Group E at the European Championship, in which our Dolphins won after a turbulent finish.

In this way, Serbia secured a place in the semifinals of the continental championship.

The Dolphins were trailing at the beginning of the match led throughout the entire match, in which, after a two-match suspension, Serbia’s and the world’s best player Dušan Mandić took part. He was precisely the best individual of the match with three goals scored.

The Hungarians started better, took a 4:1 lead, but our team came back and equalized at 4:4 and then took the lead.

An even battle followed until 7:7, when our team pulled away and gained a two-goal advantage, and then in the third quarter raised the score to a record five-goal difference – 13:8.

In the final quarter, the Hungarians closed in to 13:11, after which Rašović restored a three-goal advantage at 14:11.

After a scuffle in the pool, Serbia remained with one player less until the end, which the guests used to close in to 14:13.

When it was most difficult, Strahinja Rašović brought Serbia a 15:13 lead with a lob. Fekete scored in the final minute to make it 15:14.

The Olympic champions played excellently in the final moments and came away with a victory that took them to the semifinals!

A fight almost broke out in the pool in the final quarter

After Nađ scored for 14:12, there was a major scuffle in front of Serbia’s goal, and it was a real miracle that a general fight did not break out in the pool. Lukić and Fekete turned their duel into something more, so all the players of both teams gathered in front of the Serbian goal. The referee watched VAR and decided that our player deserved a red card two and a half minutes before the end.
