Julian Abassu, a young student from Uganda, came to Serbia a few years ago to study and quickly became popular on social media, where she regularly shares how she, as an African woman, is managing in our country. Her followers are used to her reactions to local customs and Serbian food, and now she has tried one of the most famous Serbian specialties – ajvar.

She could not keep her enthusiasm to herself, so she shared a video on her Instagram in which she filmed herself eating it, commenting on every bite, as well as the fact that she managed to eat half a jar of ajvar in just five minutes.

„My people, what is this?“

„People? My friend made ajvar and brought me some… people half, I’ve already eaten half! Without bread, without anything – because I like it. I ate half in five minutes! This is definitely one of the best things Serbia has brought me,“ she said excitedly.

As she revealed, her first encounter with red pepper in the student cafeteria was unusual and a little strange, but after a few bites, she realized why ajvar is so highly valued in Serbia.

„The first time I saw red pepper, which I had never seen before, I thought it was disgusting, and when I tried it, it had a strange taste, so I had to get used to it. However, I soon grew to love it. And then I tried ajvar and fell in love. And when my friend said she was making it herself for the winter, I said I wanted a jar,“ said Julian, who was eating ajvar the whole time and then charmingly commented that she had to stop, to save some for tomorrow.

„You are one of us“

Her sincere and cheerful reaction made a large number of Instagram users laugh.

„Haha, this is how I reacted too when I first tried ajvar as a child,“ „Ajvar is the strongest thing in the world,“ „Sweet sister, add some cheese too, that will be real magic,“ „Haha, you are really interesting,“ „But you are one of us,“ were just some of the comments below the video.
