On the seventh day of the World Athletics Championships, the last two Serbian representatives who had not yet had the opportunity to compete finally took the stage. Adriana Vilagoš came out first and with 66.06 from the third series, she secured a place in the final – no one surpassed her performance! Marija Vučenović will still fight for a place in the elite.
After Angelina Topić had already secured her place in the final, Adriana Vilagoš did the same! In the first two throws she did not achieve the result she wanted, with 61.22 and 61.11, and then – 66.06!
“I really had to fight for this. I had bad qualifications in the previous two competitions. Although I didn’t want to think about it, I had additional stress. I am very happy that in the third series I managed to have a throw that I knew I was capable of. But after it ‘flew’ out of my hand like this, it will give me confidence for tomorrow.
We have very little time to prepare, only 24 hours to regenerate. Now the goal is just to rest for tomorrow and just enjoy and throw with confidence. And to already collect new memories from the final,” Adriana told Sport Klub after qualifying for her first senior world final.
By the way, Vilagoš was seen as a favorite to advance, while Vučenović comes full of faith in herself and ready to chase the biggest success in her career.
This season, Adriana Vilagoš broke the national record, which is now 67.22 meters, and she also confirmed her potential on the biggest stage, after winning second place in the Diamond League final.
Unlike the last World Championship, when at only 19 years old she competed injured and failed to reach the final, now she enters the throwing area completely ready.
