U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that the United States will provide assistance to protesters in Iran if, as he put it, the Iranian authorities kill peaceful participants in the protests.

Writing on the social network Truth Social, Trump claimed it is the custom of the Iranian authorities to kill peaceful protesters and that Washington is ready for action. “If Iran shoots and kills peaceful protesters, as is their custom, the United States will come to their aid. We are ready for action,” Donald Trump wrote.

At least seven people have died in demonstrations sparked by the economic crisis in Iran, which have spread to rural provinces, authorities said. The individuals were killed in four cities, primarily inhabited by the Luri ethnic group, according to the AP.

Economic Collapse Sparking Unrest

The protests began on Sunday, triggered by rampant inflation and the devaluation of the Iranian rial, which is now valued at approximately 1.4 million rials per one US dollar. These protests are the largest in Iran since 2022, when the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman arrested for “improperly” wearing a hijab, launched nationwide demonstrations, the American agency noted.
