At today’s session of the Executive Board of the Olympic Committee of Serbia, it was decided that the new president will be Dejan Tomašević.
Details from the session revealed that actually no other candidate was even considered, and thus the newest head of the OCS was automatically confirmed – who went through his own turbulent period.
Due to the situation in the country, they received permission for the elections to be postponed, and instead of February, they only happened now, at the end of the year. It has now been decided that the former basketball player will take over the helm of our Olympic Committee.
During his career, Tomašević played for various clubs, including Crvena zvezda and Partizan. Besides that, he played for Budućnost, Baskonia, Valencia, and Panathinaikos – with whom he won the Euroleague in 2007. On two occasions, he was among the best five players of the European competition, and in 2001 he was also the league MVP.
His arrival at the head of the OCS will continue the mandate of basketball players in that position. He will directly replace Božidar Maljković, who had been in that position since 2017, and before him, that role was performed by Vlade Divac, since 2013.
