Novak Djokovic has revealed to Serbian media exactly what each person in his team does.
In the past few years, Djokovic has made various interesting changes to his team, with the exception of the situation with Andy Murray.
Carlos Gomez-Herrera, popular as Charlie, was a sparring partner and assistant coach to Goran Ivanišević, as well as a team manager. Currently, he only retains the latter function.
The main coach is now Dušan Vemić, but he actually shares this role with long-time analyst Boris Bošnjaković.
All in all, it’s best to hear it directly from him:
“You essentially answered the question of whose responsibility is what. Boris and Dušan share the coaching role. Bošnjaković is also an analyst; he’s had that role for several years now, analyzing my matches through video recordings. We have this company that brings us the technology and gives us the ability to analyze my matches with specific programs that allow us to get to the core of any problem we want to address on the court. Matches, training sessions, he’s in charge of that. Grič is my fitness coach and performance manager; he’s essentially the main person in the team for all the specialized staff who are here. The main one for expertise. Charlie is the team manager; he’s no longer a sparring partner. He handles off-court duties and is responsible for team organization; he has a million little things to do there. Miljan (Amanović) and Claudio (Cimalla) are physiotherapists, Miljan more so, Claudio is here for some weeks and smaller tournaments.”
Novak then said he wasn’t sure when, or if, he would change the team again, and he was also asked if he planned to seek help from Nenad Zimonjić for Wimbledon, as was the case in 2022.
“Whether the team will stay after Roland Garros. I don’t know; I’m not preoccupied with having to find or change someone right now. I’m following my own feeling about how I want my team to look, how I feel on the court with them,” Novak said and emphasized:
“I haven’t planned it for now, but we are certainly friends; I haven’t seen him for a while. I hope to see him at Wimbledon; we’ll meet there.”
