April 23 marks a significant day in Serbian history—Armed Forces Day—and this year, the country commemorates a major milestone: 210 years since the founding of its military. President Aleksandar Vučić extended heartfelt congratulations to all members of the Serbian Armed Forces, including Defense Minister Bratislav Gašić and Chief of the General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović.

In his official message, Vučić emphasized the historical weight of the occasion:

“I congratulate all members of the Serbian Armed Forces on April 23 – Armed Forces Day – and the 210th anniversary of its founding. Today, we remember the year 1815, when the Second Serbian Uprising was launched, a pivotal moment in the creation of the modern Serbian state. That historic act, driven by the pursuit of freedom, holds great significance in our national history and continues to be a lasting source of inspiration for both the Serbian people and our military.”

The president highlighted the Armed Forces as a symbol of courage, honor, and determination, underscoring their essential role in safeguarding Serbia’s freedom.

“The Serbian Armed Forces are the guardians of our nation’s proud tradition. In modern times, they continuously develop their capacities, strengthen capabilities, and improve combat readiness. Serbia has invested heavily in recent years—not just in modernizing weapons and equipment, but also in improving the lives and working conditions of our servicemen and women,” Vučić stated.

He detailed government efforts focused on increasing salaries, providing housing support, professional development, and introducing incentives for young people interested in joining the military.

The president also stressed the importance of military training, civil-military cooperation, and Serbia’s growing participation in peacekeeping missions and joint international exercises, all of which, he said, have contributed to the country’s enhanced global reputation and operational readiness.

“Our shared duty is to preserve peace, but also to remain ever-ready to defend our people and our nation. The Serbian Armed Forces do not merely guard our borders—they protect the dignity, heritage, and values of an entire nation,” Vučić concluded.

As Serbia reflects on over two centuries of military legacy, Armed Forces Day serves as both a tribute to its past and a commitment to the future—honoring those who serve and protecting the identity of the nation they defend.
