A New Year’s cocktail party for Rio Tinto is being held at the Hilton Hotel, and representatives of the “Don’t Give Up Jadar” association, along with students and citizens, have arrived at the hotel to deliver a message that, as they put it, “they won’t dig.”
The gathered activists, citizens, and students are on their way to the room where Rio Tinto’s New Year’s cocktail party is underway. They are chanting slogans like “Rio Tinto, get out of Serbia,” “murderers,” “rebellion.”
“I hope we find the room where the cocktail party is because we want to tell them that they won’t dig and that they shouldn’t waste their money because no one will be there to return it to them. Aleksandar Vučić will soon be either in prison or will flee the country, so they won’t have anyone to hold accountable and demand back what they invested. Rio Tinto is losing on all fronts, both Europe and their home country, Australia, have risen against them. They are so hated that it’s best to withdraw in time because their rating and shares are falling. Everything that happened after January 20, 2020, is solely their business risk, which doesn’t concern us, because the project was stopped then. Let them start doing something else, they can do agriculture because that is the future,” Ljiljana Bralović from SEOS told N1.
Among the activists present was Zlatko Kokanović, from the “Don’t Give Up Jadar” association.
“We haven’t found the room where the cocktail party is being held yet, but we met Mr. Drobnjak with his business partners here. He told us that nothing would be dug for the next two years and that the president had told him so. I told him to convey the message to them, that they won’t be doing anything even after two years,” said Kokanović.
After failing to find the room where the Rio Tinto cocktail was organized, the gathered group left the hotel.
A larger group of students and citizens was waiting for them in front of the hotel. Together, they protested and chanted slogans like “Rio Tinto, get out of Serbia,” “murderers,” “rebellion.”
Traffic was blocked for 15 minutes.
