The University of Belgrade is on the QS list of the best universities in the world for 2026, which has just been published.

Our largest and oldest university ranked between 761st and 770th place, which is slightly worse than last year when it was in the group from 731st to 740th place.

Besides the University of Belgrade, the University of Novi Sad is also on the list, ranking from 1,201st to 1,400th place, whereas in the previous ranking it was between 1,001st and 1,200th place.

The universities in Kragujevac and Niš, which were between 1,201st and 1,400th place last year, have now dropped off the list.

The QS university ranking includes over 1,500 higher education institutions.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has once again been ranked as the best university in the world, while almost 500 universities have improved their performance since last year.

Of these, the biggest improvement was the Sunway University in Malaysia, which climbed over 120 places.

The criteria used to compile the list included academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, faculty citations, international research network, employment prospects, sustainability, etc.

Among universities from the former Yugoslavia, the University of Ljubljana is the best ranked, at 535th place, followed by the University of Zagreb in the group from 701st to 710th place.

The University of Belgrade recently positioned itself at 387th place out of a total of 21,462 ranked universities worldwide, according to the published Global 2000 list by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR).
