Carlos Alcaraz continued making tennis history after defeating Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open final with a score of 2:6, 6:2, 6:3, 7:5.
He became the youngest player ever to complete a career Grand Slam, now holding at least one title at each of the four major tournaments, for a total of seven Grand Slam titles.
The Spaniard did not hide his joy, but he did not miss the opportunity to address Novak Djokovic with heartfelt words, showing how much he had learned from him.
“First, I want to talk about Novak—he certainly deserves a standing ovation. You show how I do incredible things, but what you do is real inspiration. Not just on the court, but off it as well. Hard work—that is inspiration to me. It’s been an honor to share the court and the locker room with you, and thank you for everything you do. It’s very inspiring,” Alcaraz said.
He then reflected on his own journey and achievements.
“No one knows how hard I worked to reach this moment—it was an emotional rollercoaster. We just focused on the right work. You pushed me every day to do the right things. Thanks to everyone in my corner; this trophy is yours too. Novak said it’s strange to watch Rafa; this is the first time as a professional. You watched me earlier when I was 14 or 15. We had great battles on the court, not too many, but it was a privilege to be on the court with you, to share the locker room.”
He also praised the tournament organizers.
“This tournament is amazing for the players; everything is incredible and it improves every year, which I really appreciate. I’m happy to come every year; it’s an honor to play in Melbourne every year. The love and support, not just during the match but also in training, means a lot. Thank you for pushing me during the tough moments. Thank you so much, and I hope to come back next year.”
